Windows 7 credential manager is being reset on reboot and other share issues

Bear with me, this is going to be a long one.



There are two computers involved here, both on the same LAN, a desktop and a laptop. Desktop has shares on it, all of them shared on the LAN with two permissions - one with my name which gives me full access and the other one HomeGroupUser$ who can only read.



Desktop runs Windows 10, previous last update. I need to mention all the issues arose after I installed this update - the Macbook I use to access the network now asks me for a password every time I connect to the SMB server.



Laptop runs Windows 7 Professional, updates disabled.



Both Desktop and Laptop run Bitdefender AV and Malwarebytes Premium, but neither said anything.



Laptop runs HP ProtectTools for the fingerprint reader to function properly.



Description of the issue:
- boot laptop, login to Windows, shares are already mapped as drives;
- I don't have write access on the shared mapped drives;
- I enter credentials manager and modify the login;
- still don't have write access;
- I reboot the laptop, now I have write access;
- if I shut down then boot instead of rebooting, there is no write access again;
- the credential manager "resets", i.e. it shows previously deleted credentials there, and the credentials that I modified are restored to their previous state.



I used to use Homegroup on my LAN, now it's gone with the latest windows update on the desktop. Still is there on the laptop.



Now on the macbook the shares are working but every time I connect I have to reinput the password albeit I check "remember password" every time.
