America COMPETES (Creating Opportunities to Meaningfully Promote Excellence in Technology, Education, and Science),
Вокруг — надпись «NATIONAL MEDAL OF TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION» (до 2007 года — «NATIONAL MEDAL OF TECHNOLOGY»). На обратной стороне медали изображён американский орёл, вокруг — слова «AWARDED BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA TO», за которыми следует имя лауреата[1].
Для отбора финалистов существует специальный комитет — National Medal of Technology and Innovation Evaluation Committee, — члены которого назначаются президентом на 3 года.
