I have created a springMVC project which runs on tomcat server. When i hit the URL through my laptop, i am able to access the link using my hostname.
i.e http://localhost:8080/project works fine and http://hostname:8080/project also accessible.
Other systems connected to the same network can view the web page using http://hostname:8080/project.

When i follow the same steps on the desktop, i am not able to access the web page through another system using the hostname of desktop (http://hostnameDESK:8080/project is not accessible to other systems in the same network)
